abi Programme: Principals' Testimonials

All school staff including SNA’s attended the course. Feedback from everybody was very positive. They found the concepts of the programme practical and user friendly. We are looking forward to implementing the programme in the school. The children enjoyed the workshops.
Caroline Tully – Principal, Knockcroghery National School, Roscommon.

We have fully embraced the programme in our school. We are using it as a 3rd area of development in our school improvement plan. We love how this programme is integrated into every aspect of school life and how antibullying lessons and events are now run in our school on an ongoing basis rather than once a term or year as with other stand alone programmes we have used.
Fiona O’ Neill, Clonown National School, Roscommon.

From the very first meeting with Monica from the Anti-Bullying Institute it was clear that this was an excellent initiative and it quickly became a priority for our school. The No Blame, No Anger approach was one I wholeheartedly agreed with. I feel that every child should feel safe and happy in the school environment. I’m confident that this programme will help me achieve this goal. The chance to empower pupils with the ability to deal with different challenges is a noble challenge that deserves our support.

I firmly believe that this programme would be of enormous benefit to any school lucky enough to introduce it. I really believe that this project is unique, because unfortunately the Department of Education is not in a position to offer any help to schools on the ground with this huge issue.
Tom Gately – Principal, Ballymurray National School, Roscommon.

The abi programme has many merits. It is very well structured. It is clear on explaining what bullying behaviour is. It gives good guidelines to the class teacher on what to do when a bullying report is made. It prevents on the spot punishment which may be reactionary. I think the idea that children are given a chance to redeem the care credit is invaluable. Monica Monahan presented the programme in a highly stimulating and interesting way. It is clear she is passionate about creating a caring environment and an awareness and empathy in schools.
Joan Conway, Cornafulla National School, Roscommon.

... from other abi Projects:

‘We have worked with the Monica Monahan from the NABC, now changed to abi Anti-Bullying Institute, in our school over the last two years and her work and advice has had an appreciable impact of the life and value of our students and staff. She has enabled us to work collegially and productively in tackling bullying with effective structures and tools that were new to us and very innovative’.
William Fennelly OSB, Headmaster, Glenstal Abbey Boarding School, Co. Limerick.

'Monica Monahan is extremely professional in her approach to anti-bullying topics. She has demonstrated fabulous intuition for the needs of our groups, and has a very deep understanding of the issues underlying aggression and bullying behaviours.'
Ms Bernie Downes, Principal Adult Education Unit Castlerea Prison.

'I am familiar with the knowledge, expertise, conflict resolution skills, and professionalism of Ms Monica Monahan because as Chairman of a school Board of Management, I have first-hand experience of her skills in negotiation, conducting staff-meetings and her writing of a practical, working document ‘Dignity at Work’ which provides the guidelines and procedures for conflict resolution in that school. Ms Monahan also designed and implemented an Anti-Bullying Programme in the school. For many years Ms Monahan has proven that she is very competent, skilful and effective in her work as a consultant in conflict resolution/Anti-Bullying programmes in various work settings.'
Dr. Séamus Caomhánach, Cathaoirleach Gaelscoil Liatroma.

‘Monica Monahan has worked with our whole school community in revising and developing our anti-bullying policy. Her expertise, advice and knowledge of recent research findings was much valued as we prepared for a healthy school climate. Monica is available for ongoing consultation and support as we require it. This is reassuring. I thank her for her work with us’.
Gearoidin Ni Gruneil, Principal, Scoil Aingeal, Castlebar.
